> Accept is from Germany and began releasing albums in the late 70's.
Restless & Wild, however, is from the golden metal years of 1981-1986.
Although it was originally recorded in 1982, this Heavy Metal Worldwide
release in 1987 was the first I've seen on CD. This also happens
to be their best album, and I've heard just about all their material (which
is considerable). Accept injects their own metal sound into Nazareth,
AC/DC, and Deep Purple / Rainbow roots.
> I first bought this album on vinyl -- no less a limited edition opaque
red vinyl release. Unfortunately, I sold that collectable once I
bought the CD. Oh well, such is life. At any rate, finding
this album on CD will be difficult and well worth the effort.
> It's nice to able to look back at a group's discography and be able to
discern their best works. Accept has talent and it shines brightly
in this album. It may take some getting used to, but Udo's grouchy
voice (like AC/DC) fits well with the metal jams. Peter Baltes plays
a mean bass, and is responsible for much of Accept's creativity.
Having two guitarists, a singer, bassist, and drummer is what I'd call
a complete metal group. Although I wouldn't say they're exceptional,
Jorg and Wolf certainly had the 80's hard power riffs down pat. Throw
in some Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple / Rainbow) melodic interludes and
you have my kind of music. I guess I'd pick 'Princess of the Dawn'
as the album's best track since it encompasses they're entire range.
There isn't a bad song on the album though. |
